I know it’s a bit late but happy holidays to all of you! Despite being a thing since 2008, this is the first year KFB has released physical records. And we released 2! and there’s more coming! Our 4th Christmas party was our biggest yet and it was a resounding success as well, with me actually breaking even. Thank you so so so much for being there with us through all of this excitement! and thanks for buying our records! Seb Fleet and Count Oak’s Sun 7″ is now sold out in it’s limited glow-in-the-dark format and a less-limited black vinyl release will be out in january. Happy winter holidays!

Hello friends,

I am proud to announce that yesterday, (9/3/2011) Tyler Carriere aka John The Baptist of the Kingfisher Bluez Recording Company was wed at a private ceremony on Vancouver Island. I was honoured to be his best man and I have a few additional comments to share:

I am lucky enough to have been Tyler’s friend for the last eight years and I can say without a doubt if you had told me in January that I would be here today, typing my best man speech into his laptop the morning after his wedding, I would have believed you. In January, Tyler hadn’t even the faintest premonition of his impending nuptials. He had just moved to the Comox Valley, in hopes of paying off his phone bill before his journey to New York to live out his life as a Carthusian Monk (but that’s another story).

Tyler is the sort of person who dives headlong into everything he does, and I couldn’t be more proud of him for diving into his new life as a husband, father and business owner. Now that he’s taken these vows, he won’t be taking the previously intended vow of silence and I can say that Kingfisher Bluez will be that much richer with his continued presence, his unmistakable voice, and unequivocal passion for life, music and art.

Thank you Tyler, John the Baptist, with all the love in the world. You will always have a home at Kingfisher Bluez!

Maybe there’s not enough music coming out in 2011, but The Smiths and U2 are hoping that 20 or 30 years have taken their toll on your memory and you will feel compelled to repurchase these old favourites. I know I am going to get the vinyl boxes of each of them, so I guess the joke’s on me. Actually just looking at these pictures is making my mouth water a bit… I mean, it’s in a box! The Smiths one even has new art! I guess these could just be lovingly put-together sets aimed at the only age group that still pays for music. Make some room over the fireplace!

Hey check out this new video by Slippery Elm and Astrological of local Vancouver hip hop group Elekwent Folk. It features a surprise cameo by ME. It’s even more of a surprise because I didn’t even know I was in it until Devon told me.
